Lakemba Public School were treated to a real life history lesson when 94-year-old Arthur Chapman returned to the school to tell them a few tales.
The school held a special assembly and morning tea in honour of Mr Chapman, Dux of the school in 1925, and his long time friend Jackie Thomson.
His many stories and memories of school life at Lakemba amazed students and teachers.
A student at Lakemba from 1922 until 1925, Mr Chapman had the students' full attention as he told of days when he didn't have a radio or television and came to school in bare feet.
He said it was a wonderful day and I didn't expect such a kind welcome.
School Education Director Diane Dunn said: "It was a privilege to meet Arthur and share his very fond memories of this school. It is wonderful to think that after all these years Lakemba Public School still holds such a special place in his heart."
School principal Laraine Rylance said Arthur was a great example to students.
"He displayed the deep influence that school, teachers and learning has on a child," she said.
Lakemba student leaders said: "Mr Chapman was an amazing man and a wonderful example of our history. His stories were amazing, especially about his years at Lakemba."
